Eric Smith received a lifetime membership award at the Burnley Athletic Club presentation evening last week.
Eric is the first face many people see when they arrive at the Burnley AC, he has volunteered to man our registration desk for the past few years and this is a role that cannot be underestimated.
Eric originally came to our club when his grand daughter Amber became a member in 2012, he has been a great supporter of all our athletes (young and old) and has been a regular face at meetings throughout this time.
He is always willing to help out the club whenever he can, as was seen in the summer where he spent a full morning collecting litter to make sure the track looked at it’s best for the annual hosting of the Burnley AC Under 11’s Meeting. The torrential downpours that day didn’t dampen his spirits.
His friendly demeanour is a massive asset to the club as many young athletes are nervous about what to expect on their first visit to the club, he puts their minds at ease and they are made to feel welcome from moment one.
Eric has a brilliant dry sense of humour which can be seen in all it’s glory in his acceptance speech below.
We all love him dearly and an Honorary Membership is the least we can do to thank him for all his hard work over his time at the club.
